who are these people spreading such negative vibes about Bob B & his labor of love?
or is there one obsessed person logging on over & over? (feels like it)like Bobby E
(hey! really enjoyed your post, man) i don't do this too often but enough already!

bob bobbing's intent is right on--the project is right on & sometimes things take longer
than we think--cut the cat some slack--he is not a record pro--he hasn't been in the
record label business before...but he is completely genuine and on the one...
and for those of you waiting to hear it--when you hear the interview segments Bob B got
from Joni, Zawinul, Metheny and Herbie H along with so much cool music that so many have
never had access to before you'll understand the value of Bob's vision and commitment
to get it right...delayed or not(and even the big labels sometimes push back release
dates threee or four times, as do the artists at times) it will be worth the wait

it's a one-of-a-kind thing & it feels like there are some impatient, jealous folks taking
shots at someone who is doing us-and Jaco's legacy- a service...Bobby Economou was spot on
--if only somone had cared this much to document the early years of the other music legends....

i've discussed the documentary approach with him and offered suggestions--but guess what?
this is his show and he's entitled to do it as he sees fit & if he wishes to labor a little longer
--we'll all be the better for it...the cat has done ALOT to keep Jaco's profile up...

as for the people with nothing better to do than spread negative energy on Jaco's official
website (set up by HIS children) get real & get a life---this sight should be about
beauty and art --THAT was who JACO was...shame on you for putting your drivel here...

2002 looks to be a great year for JACO--i'm sure Bob B
will have his package in release fairly soon...(seriously).

i've been working with a fellow @ Rhino on a double disc Jaco collection--which may
yet come out before year's end--it will gather together many wonderful tracks heretofor
available only on imports or a track here and there on out-of-print or hard-to-come by
discs [sorry didn't mean to drift off into a promo] + sony is releasing remastered
versions of WR discs (including "Black Market" to start--too bad no extra tracks)

and while it probably won't be until early 2003, Rhino has committed to the full release
of TWINS(Live @ Aurex) a wonderful double disc of the WOM Big Band (previously available
in the US on vinyl (and as an import CD from Germany) as the single disc Invitation which
i compiled for Warner Bros when they wouldn't go for the full package...(ah, all things in time)

and finally the folks @ JPI are looking at the BOOTLEG issue--Jaco's kids have been ripped off
for years and Jaco's legacy hasn't been very well served by the weasels selling low-fi,
unauthorized and frequently less than inspired performances...Jaco must be spinning out
--he was a serious, focused and gifted artist--i had the pleasure of watching him
labor(and laugh) in the studio Jaco was an artist who knew exactly what he wanted
and he didn't settle--so much of the **** that has come out posthumously is dreck
--and even the "good stuff" could have benefitted from a little care--but the weasels
were greedy as could be and foisted shabby packages with low-fi mixes on an adoring public
who'd pay premium prices (not realizing that with the exception of the first couple(only)
of neal weiss Big World releases that jaco's family was getting ZIP--

Jaco brought four children (now adults) into this world and his legacy BELONGS TO THEM!!!
DON"T SUPPORT BOOTLEGGERS AND RIP-OFFS!! Be patient, I have confidence that great things
will come out of JPI--they too are just learning about the record business...(and most of
what they've seen so far is courtesy of the weasel rip-offs
--so they may be a little slow-to-start)

i believe the BOOTLEGGERS (crooks) will soon start crawling back under their rocks
& Jaco's progeny will start reclaiming what is rightfully theirs & theirs alone
-- they have my FULL support in that regard

before long i'm betting JPI will release (finally a true, authorized) edition of
Holiday For Pans and benefit from their father's work on that...yup a few years up
the road a piece and i think all of Jaco's fans and friends are gonna be very happy

....and JPI is the one outfit that can make it happen--i foresee a time when the
collector's will be able to share and funnel their archives (and share in the action for it)
through JPI and an entire series of rare JACO--the best stuff--can be lovingly compiled and
technologically tweaked to present the best of JACO's work that has not been legitimately
released---the collector's will have an opportunity to contribute AND profit and in doing so
--earn something many collector's never obtain: the eternal (literally!) gratitude of the
artist they admire--and i guarantee when that day comes, those collectors who cooperate
and contribute will see money--but far more importantly they'll have one of those monstrous,
infectious, ear-to-ear Jaco smiles beaming down on them from jazz heaven...Jaco will be
SO happy with the folks who help take care of his kids...bet on it
--better than that think about being a part of it--that's what music is all about
--caring/community/sharing/making a difference..."Who Loves You?"

-yours in music,
ricky schultz
