"I want to get this?" WTF?! I seriously doubt this bootleg exists, but if it does - don't buy it. Don't buy into this BS. This CD release is a long time coming because of all the care that has gone into its making and for a bootleg to pop up possibly weeks before it’s released would totally suck. Were talking about Jaco's friend and family. I plan to wait and hope that Bob Bobbing comes through with the goods. Think about Jaco! Don’t support bootleggers!!
JacoMan posted: "I saw the other threads on this site of where to get it...went to the store and picked it up. It is NOT that great, although I like the material with Pat Metheny interesting. The narration in between is kind of interesting, but not needed." BS! "I went to the store"? Does he think we're all idiots? This is total ****. Then, he went on to say "If you look at the clues of where to find bootlegs, its easy. For the most part, try 'used' cd stores. Even a better place to find rare recordings is the tape trader network found via tapetracker.com" This is an obvious ploy to get more registered users at tapetracker.com You can't even use the site without being forced to register, which is more BS. You can't find this supposed release on the site either. Don't buy into this BS!!. This is just another case of someone trying to use Jaco to get ahead. As a matter of fact I can read through the lines of several other posts as well. Because of the extremely high readers count on this thread it is attracting all kinds of bottom dwellers with various personal agendas. Look for yourself Great about Herbie, really. How far back does that set production on the thing? Hey, I heard Bobbing's finally lined up interviews with Jaco's little league baseball coach, and his 9th grade geography teacher, sister Mary Lownote. Once he gets the legal permisssions, and appropriate pictures, and redoes the cd order and the packaging, then changes his mind a couple more times, why then it'll be ABOUT TO BE RELEASED! Bet on it! Ummm. I think Herbie might be a little more important to Dixie Highway than your alledged Sister Lownote. Quit being a dick Well unregistered I guess I am being somewhat of a dick, but who is worse--me or the guy who keeps telling the world the thing is ABOUT TO BE RELEASED and then not releasing it? It's deceptive, annoying, and dishonors the memory of Jaco. It's not a big deal in the scheme of things, but it's annoying and deceptive and low-rent, like a used car lot bait and switch. Jaco was a great, original artist who deserves to be treated with respect and decency, not carny promotions Hello, I'd like to take this opportunity to announce that I am working really hard on a new Jaco set to be released in the near future. The tentative title is "A Real Portrait of Jaco" and it will cover all periods of Jaco's musical career. That's right, from beginning to end. It looks like it will be out in time for summer, but keep checking back here on the board for updates about the project. I have all the audio done, but doing magazine interviews and working really hard to complete the artwork as well as working out licensing deals. As I am writing this, I have changed the audio, so there is a little delay, but rest assured, "The Real Portrait of Jaco" will be released soon. Stay tuned! The disc set will feature a CD-ROM of the history of the release, production schedule, contracts, words from musicians and friends of Jaco and a special feature on Bob Bobbings of how he never released tapes he had in his posession and how he never really intended to. Luckily, someone in the underground market finally going to release this material. I've given a couple of CD-R test pressings to various Internet and jazz retailers who say customers just are eating them up. They really don't mind paying $25.00 for them. Anyway, post your comments and suggestions here about "The Real Portrait" release. The factory pressed CD (from out of this country) is coming soon. If not by this summer, then hopefully by December 1, Jaco's birthday!! Keep listening.... You go CD man! Did you get Bobbing's latest bs email? What a joke (I mean plead)... For those of you on the JacoEarlyYears mailing list you should have gotten an email. He sent some sort of email that bassicly is saying that he is doing good and the project is coming...In my opinion it was a classy email and he took the time to let us no what was up. My only complaint is that there was really no "new" information , merley him trying to not look like he is just jerking off this whole project. The only new thing was the price...So, I have two opinions 1) it was a great email and he is cool for doing it. 2) he is simply buying himself more time with a email that is just pointless babble to make us feel better. so, what do the rest of you think? BTW, I'm not Bobbing Bashing.....just feeling two emotions at once and want a second opinion. ~Peace Love and .......~ Doesn't it seem sometimes that Bob has some underlying agenda that involves periodically generating all this publicity regarding the project by saying that the release is just around the corner. Does he get compensated for these interviews that the magazines have with him? He really should just wait until the project is ready for production and then try to hype it. I think he's doing a disservice to the rest of us. Personally, I rather just not read or hear about it at all. 40.00 sounds like a good deal. but i wonder if its gonna stay. I'm thinking there will be some "unforseen costs" and the price will jump. didn't bob say there would be an april release?? I would love to hear this release as much as anyone else, but I think Bob has done Jaco's loyal fans--not to mention creditable magazines--a HUGE disservice by promoting something that is no where near done. Does he really think he can play us all for asses??? His workds made his intentions seem good, but his actions prove something all together different. I'm sick of hearing about the release period. So sick in fact, that I recently took my name off his mailing list. I'm tired of the lies! He can't let the thing go, and now he's got himself convinced that all the fake publicity is "keeping Jaco's memory alive." This is how he's justifying it to himself--it's not dishonest or incompetant, it's "keeping Jaco's memory alive." No it's not--it's screwing Jaco's memory up The email asks if we support him in this--well, I don't. I think it's goofy and wrong to announce a release and then backpedal, for whatever reason. It was "ABOUT TO BE RELEASED" two years ago. Then there was a series of emails about how hard it is to release a cd. So why make the announcement in the first place? It will never come out, becaue Bobbing can't let it go. He'll alwasy fnd omething new to add to the thing, some vital interview or something. I'm giving up on the thing and will not buy it if it does come out--which it won't Aight guys, here's the whole friggin deal!!!!!! Look, I know we're all Jaco fanatics here, and we all want to see this project be the best thing it possibly can be. However, good things take time. I mean, if the Fender bass was around for almost 15-20 years before Jaco started doing all the stuff he did, it was worth the wait. We ALL know that Jaco's earliest outings with groups are some of his best work of all time. If I have to wait until I'm on my death bed to hear the beautiful stuff, I will. Bob's trying to make this the best he can. If you let him take the time, the CD will literally leave you musically high for a good damn long time. And for that matter, whoever's bitching about taking tracks off for commentary, SHUT UP!!! He's going to put out all the CC Riders, Woodchuck, etc. stuff out as standalone items anyway, so you'll get the **** one way or another. And all you people that say Bob is no friend of Jaco's...look, he took the time to do it in the first place, didn't he? How many of you cats out there have any of this stuff whatsoever? If he didn't put out anything, would you be the same way? Look, if you're all just that childishly impatient, then just go on your merry loser ways. I'm in no way trying to insult you and be a bad guy, but just hold on. Good things come to those with patience, including this CD. It'll all be great, I know it. I hope that when the CD comes out, you can all listen to it, and as you listen to it, you just smile and be happy you waited instead of not getting it at all. Thanx Guys, Matt Matt, Thanks for your post. I feel exactly the same way. I know that people are frustrated with the long wait. No one is more anxious than I am to see and hear the finished product, but complaining won't get it done any faster. Like you said, I really believe that the wait will be well worth it Take care. birdie I'm not "childishly impatient." I've actually been really patient on this thing. It was first announced about 8 years ago. I'm probably a lot older than you, and it seems to me I rememebr talk about "portrait of Jaco" even farther back. It's been officially "about to be releaed" for two years now. How much more patience would you like to see? It's false advertising--it's basically a lie. Do you like being lied to? It's not the end of the world, obviously but it seems reasonable, in a web site devoted to Jaco, to express annoyance and urge him to release it. It's kind of pathetic really. What we're seeing is pathalogical--the guy can't let it go, and he keeps inventing new excuses to work on it some more. Now he's convinced himself that all the fake release dates are "keeping Jaco's memory alive." Right. But not in a good way. they are keeping a live a memory of mental dysfunction, not a memory of brilliant playing Why not at least release PART of the project? Then he could have anongiong "Jaco Memorial" project going on? Right on Max! I am also tired of being lied to. The wet dreams and broken promises are what is p*ssing me off. I have to agree with you that Bobbings is pathetic and his BROKEN PROMISES are built on his pathological disorder. As for you bass guy 1234, I do have most of these recordings in one form or another and I’m basically waiting on what might be cleaner copies. If you want a tune cut off in exchange for more words, then fine, but I want my CD full of music. Does Bob think he is doing us a favor by putting edited versions of Jaco’s early demo on this project then releasing them later on? I have the demos myself. Maybe I should have them pressed up and provide the family and musicians (Bobby Economu and Alex Darqui) with royalties from their sales. At least that way the public will get to hear them before the next century. So if you consider me impatient, f*ck off! I think that clause was weakened after the second year of written advertisement for the Jaco early years project. Dudes, if you have better ideas than what's going on, all the power to you, but don't sit around, do something for your love of the world's greatest bass player!!!! Matt Bob, Since I know you read this regulary, I would like to tell you personally to f*ck off for being such a lying piece-of-sh*t about your Jaco tribute. I can see the reasons why great care should be taken with the project, but your lies are too much. You should have never mentioned the release until it was an actual reality (which it still isn't). The delay between the press you generated and the actual release (May 2046???) is ridiculous beyond belief. I'm tired of being jerked around and have no more interest in the project, so good luck with the rest of the suckers. P.S. Nice try with your bs e-mail! Temper, temper, now. Lately this message board has taken on the sour reak of unvented adrenaline and frustration. As they say - chill out. What is all this ranting and raging accomplishing, other than demonstrating your position of powerlessness in the situation and adding more hype (in it's own way) to the album. Can't you all do something else with all this energy? Not until the CD gets released. Until then, I'm gonna rage about it. You know, direct opposite of Bobbing's fake advertising! You know, I don't think I remember seeing Bob asking for any money from anybody to reserve copies of the new disc. This he could have easily done to help finance the release of the disc. I would have ordered in advance myself, had it been an option. I think what Bob is doing is great. This is all his music that he never had to share with anybody if he didn't want to. He's chosen to do it now, so that those of us who will never have access to new Jaco material will have something new and unheard and beautiful. Don't be so harsh, man. Let him realease it when he thinks it's ready, when it can really be the tribute that he wants it to be. Anticipation is savory, venom is just nasty. next |
