WEBMASTER FOR JPI, ERIC YOUNG POSTS
05/17/2002
The Word of Mouth Forum is BACK UP!
Well, folks, it's back up! I spent the last 48 hours going through the forum from
top to bottom (that's a lot of posts!) and weeding out the posts that were put
there by a small group of people (less than 5) that were more often than not,
posting under different names but were really the same person. One person posted
under 19 different names and had an argument with themself / themselves!
It didn't take long to figure out who they were and as a result of their actions,
you will now have to register before posting. There is also talk of using a
different registration method for even more security so this will NEVER
happen again. It's a shame that Jaco's true fans had to be subjected to the
whims of a handful of people that are OBVIOUSLY NOT true fans and that
basically have their own agenda which does not coexist nicely with bringing
Jaco's legacy up to a place and status where it rightfully belongs. To
paraphrase Ricky Schultz on the message board, "Shame on You!".
On a more positive note, we would like to welcome back everyone to the board
and look forward to many more excellent discussions. Also, remember that there
are at least 2 real time chat rooms with room for many more in the forum.
I'd like to see some people using them, for a change (hint, hint) and i'd
like to thank again all the users/members of the forum that maintained a
positive position during the last few weeks and were able to see past the
obviously personal attacks and slander that were starting to spread like a
virus across the board. You are the true Jaco fans.
Thanks again and welcome back to the new Word of Mouth Forum!
Sincerely,
Eric Young

RESPONDING TO POSTS
17 May 2002
Excellent post, alberto! That is truly a well-thought-out bit of commentary.
It's astounding, as i go through this forum and prune out the amazingly rude
and NOT well-thought-out posts, that people do not take the time to really
think about what they are saying before they say it!
Sure, nobody is perfect, and Bob might have made judgemental mistakes in
advertising dates, but I don't think that is the case at all. Why don't you
think about it yourself. Try putting yourself in Bob's place... A single person,
sifting through tons and tons of raw material, much of which needs a thorough
cleaning just to be able to hear it clearly, and then once being able to hear it,
decide which sections are actually going to be listenable time and again and
which are just plain not fit to be released, which bits speak to the point
that is trying to be made and which don't, etc.
There are, literally, a hundred thousand decisions that need to be made on
such a daunting project as this and it is too much for a SINGLE person to do
and do perfectly on every level and matter AND do it quickly, so some details
get missed out on. It's a simple matter of triage and NOT 'the squeaky wheel
gets the grease'. Bob must ask himself what's more important, making sure the
material is totally spot on perfect or that an advertising date is perfect?
i think that's a no-brainer and would challenge any one of you out there to
do half the job that Bob is doing given the criteria i've laid out here.
The good news is that there is help now and things are moving along quite swiftly.
I have heard this project and I must say that no one has EVER heard ANYTHING
quite like it! I promise, you WILL be blown away. To conjecture about it without
having listened to it is pointless. The proof is in the listening. It is,
in a word, awesome. From the first moment to the last, you are transported to
a magical place where all the characters in the drama come to life and everyone's
right there listening to and talking about Jaco and his music and often
iconoclastic ideas on the role of the bass, composition, arranging, playing, etc..
You end up taking the walk with Jaco and seeing the picture come into focus
as you go along. It is truly a 'portrait' of Jaco's musical development.
You will get to 'see' it take shape as you are lead on an extraordinary journey
that is vibrant with life and totally relevant from top to bottom.
There's no fluff in there! This is THE REAL DEAL.
Now, I know that everybody out there, no matter what you or others may think, has
a life outside of this board, so on the topic of Portait of Jaco, it's going to
come out WHEN it comes out, and when it does, go down to the store, buy it online,
listen to it and enjoy the hell out of it. it's pretty simple. In the meantime,
just try to go about your lives' and do the things that you do with passion,
conviction and honesty and one day, soon, you'll be pleasantly surprised with
receipt of an email from Bob telling you that 'Portrait of Jaco' has just been
released and is available for all. And on that day when you listen to it, you'll
think back to this post and say about it, what I said about Alberto in the first place!
Sincerely,
Eric the Webmaster

hello, big brother here...
i did get a chuckle from the posts. just wanted you to know that no,
we're far from paranoid, and no, nobody is trying to hijack JPI and no,
i am not going to kick anybody off the board for the simple reason of
making negative comments. nothing in life is ever THAT simple, is it?
for those whose forte is not reading between the lines,
here's the steganographic summary:
a few shady people are trying to do several things.
a) they are trying to undermine the efforts of jaco's family to raise
jaco's legacy to its rightful place in history - NOT just to jaco fans
(who already know and understand), but to all people. historically,
jaco is a major player in modern music and he deserves to have that
recognition, which will take a sustained and focused effort on the part
of his family and fans.
AND
b) through a number of different types of attacks, they are trying to lessen
the value of jaco's assets. i am not permitted to divulge the reasons for
this nor the other types of attacks. just know that one of the avenues was
posting completely negative, unwarranted, personal attacks on this and other
discussion boards and leaving a trail as bright as neon in total darkness.
not very brilliant, i admit. hence the removal of the posts and the temporary
closing of the forum whilst we redid some backend infrastructure design.
the downside of all of this - other than the fact that there
are complete jerks out there with nothing better to do than
try to rain on someone else's parade, is that we actually had
to spend our time and energy on all of this stupid stuff!
the thing of it is, is that we've been having to deal with these issues for
the last several months and the forum posts are BY FAR the least of them.
ah, if only all of life's problems were as easy to solve, no?
so, anyway, sorry to dissapoint with the bit about the news not being
too exciting. now that things are back on track, we have refocused our
efforts on finishing up the website and revamping a few things here
and there to try and spice up things around here, so stick around,
and as long as your not one of the people trying to work against us,
you're certainly in no danger of being kicked off our forum. we don't
make it a habit of just going around and kicking people for making
negative, stupid, or just plain boring posts. only the hurtful ones.
AND remember, just because you're paranoid,
doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!
sincerely,
Eric Young

p.s. - btw, JPI IS jaco's family, not just some company or business.
