JACO'S ADVICE
Jaco wrote this note in response to a young bassist's inquiry.
Here is an excerpt of the letter Bill "Cork" Green wrote:
"
.....I could go on & on about my infatuation with Jaco and his music, but
finally one day in 1979, I decided to write to him - I think I addressed
the letter in care of Ruffalo Management, which was listed on the back
of the '8:30' album. One day months after I'd sent the letter and had
pretty much forgotten about it, my friend and bandmate, Wayne Dagenais
(who now plays keyboards in various r&b bands in Ft. Lauderdale), sought
me in a very excited state. He told me that he had just collected the
mail from our rural route delivery, and it included a letter to me from Jaco!
I'll never forget how astounded and honored I was that this famous musician
had actually taken the time to respond, as I never really expected to receive
a reply from him. I have guarded this letter for twenty-three years, and it
has been the envy of every musician I have ever shown it to. I feel like
I have come full circle, now that I can finally share it with Jaco's
family and legion of fans. I know that Jaco would have approved."
